Chad + Kim's Wedding at The Antrim by Nashville Wedding Photographer

Chad + Kim had so much beauty in their day including the prettiest sunset I had seen all year. Their first look and embrace prior to the wedding were EVERYTHING! Plus, Kim brought her four-legged child who melted everyone's hearts. The little pooch kept sitting on his mama's dress during the ceremony. A total heart overload. My favorite part may have been that Kim's Grandfather performed the ceremony.

James + Lindsey's East Tennessee Mountaintop Wedding by Darcy Ferris Photography.

There are many cabins on mountain tops in Tennessee, but I've never seen one quite as remote and beautiful as the setting for this wedding. The route to get there was an adventure. I got off the interstate onto a little two lane road. Then, I got off a little two lane road and merged onto what looked like a wide logging trail. Then, I turned onto what looked like "The Oregon Trail". The elevation kept going up and the road kept getting narrower. Lindsey told me the property overlooks four counties. The view was breathtaking! A storm was predicted to blow in about an hour before their 6 p.m. ceremony, but we were all praying it wouldn't. Unfortunately, the thunderstorm arrived and there was no sign of it letting up until late into the night. What happened next was beautiful! Family and friends recreated Lindsey's dream wedding under the cabin wrap-around-porch. Candles were lit to create a beautiful ambiance. Guests lined the sides of the porch to create an aisle for Lindsey to walk up and meet her prince, James. I think the wedding was more special on that wrap-around-porch with the rain beating down on the tin roof because so many people pulled together to make it work.

The ceremony was performed by her father and followed by their first dance. Their friend and hit songwriter, Jason Matthews, played and sang his hit song (recorded by Billy Currington) called "Must Be Doing Something Right". The cabin was little, but the love was over flowing.

Calain + Nissa. War Memorial. W.O. Smith Center. Nashville, TN.

The great thing about getting married in Nashville, Tennessee is that there are so many great places to choose from. Calain + Nissa chose War Memorial in the heart of downtown for their first look. Not only does War Memorial boast historical value, but also rich architecture. Luscious greenery surround the grounds as well. Calain + Nissa also have a love for music. It was only fitting that their wedding venue be at the W.O. Smith Music School in Nashville. In addition, they hired one of the most talented bands I've heard in ages called The Nashtones. (link to their website at the bottom) Calain + Nissa, family and friends danced the night away. The grand exit came as the horn section lead the couple out to their limo in a New Orleans big band fashion.

Joe + Casey. Backyard Wedding. College Grove, TN

Joe + Casey. Backyard Wedding. College Grove, TN

Joe + Casey's wedding was absolutely stunning! The wedding venue took place at Casey's parents located in the rolling hills of College Grove, Tennessee. Casey's wedding dress was something borrowed and something new. The bodice was from her mother's wedding gown. It was gorgeous! As Joe + Casey stood at the handmade wooden cross (made by her father), they proclaimed their love for one another. Casey's mother (with lots of helpers) made all the food for approximately 250 guests. The menu consisted of a trio of mini sandwiches (mini cuban on ciabatta roll, pimento cheese on sweet cornbread, smoked turkey wrap), sweet and savory snack mix, broccoli salad, citrus and banana fruit cup, and a rosemary pecan cheese wafer. Guests frothed at the mouth when the desserts were rolled out. The desserts included peanut butter tiramisu, lemon bites, peach melba shortbread, and every kind of cookie you can imagine. Casey's father made guests feel right at home during the reception; he created and built wooden games for guests to enjoy. The games consisted of yahtzee, jenga, dominoes, corn hole, and horseshoes. The night concluded at dusk with a fireworks show and sparkler exit!

TJ + Amanda. Green Door Gourmet. Nashville, TN

TJ + Amanda. Green Door Gourmet. Nashville, TN

How they met: Amanda and I first met at the Nashville Edgehill Coffee Shop. As we sipped on tea and coffee, she started by telling me how they met and finished with how he proposed. T.J. and Amanda's epic love story began on eHarmony. Amanda had consulted her parents on what types of qualities they thought would be complementary to her personality, and T.J. met the primary criteria! He loved the Lord and it was clear that he was passionate about music and using his creativity; equally driven as her, but in a different area. T.J. thought Amanda was cute and admired her walk with the Lord, her taste in books. The Proposal: Amanda, having had a full day of work and dinner with a friend, was excited to go home and call it a night. T.J. having gotten out of class early that Tuesday decided it was the perfect time for a spontaneous proposal. When Amanda left dinner with her friend, T.J. texted her the first clue for a scavenger hunt. At this point, Amanda knew T.J. was going to propose because he had previously mentioned that his plan for a proposal was a scavenger hunt (which he had forgotten!). Amanda quickly followed the clues to the Starbucks where they first met, to the movie theater where they decided to officially be a couple, and then to the front of the church where they currently attend. At the church, the clue asked Amanda to knock on the church door, close her eyes and count to 20. At the end of 20, Amanda turned around and T.J. was down on his knee. Amanda said, "Yes!"

Adam + Lauren's Crown Winery Wedding in Humboldt, Tennessee.

Photography has provided me with many blessings. One of those many blessings is who I get to meet along the journey. The who I'm talking about is photographer Kyle Gregory. I had the privilege of capturing Adam + Lauren's wedding with him in Humboldt, TN. Adam + Lauren are two of the sweetest people I've photographed. Lauren is gorgeous, funny, and her personality is infectious. Her bridesmaids were a blast and I had an amazing time capturing memories to last Adam + Lauren a lifetime of happiness.

The only time it rained was when the bridal party was getting ready. There's an old saying that if it rains on a wedding day, financial blessings are bound upon the couple. The timing for this rain was perfect.

Garett + Kandice's Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin Wedding by Darcy Ferris Photography.

Wisconsin is my home state, so I was delighted when the opportunity arose to capture Garett + Kandice's Wisconsin August wedding. Kandice is a graduate of my Alma Matar, Cornell High School. Though we are over ten years apart, we still know many of the same people from our rural small town. In fact, one of my cousins was Garett's best man. Small world? Yes! Garett + Kandice have known each other almost their entire lives. Their dads were best friends since high school, so they grew up around one another. You could say it was a love story from the very beginning.  They also  have a love for the great outdoors, especially fishing.

Kyle + Rebecca's Nashville, Tennessee Wedding at United Methodist Church and Marathon Village.

Have you ever been to a wedding and felt the bride and groom's love for one another by the way they looked at each other? That is exactly how I felt photographing Kyle + Rebecca's May wedding. Rain was forecasted, but not a drop fell. This would be my first time to capture a wedding at West End United Methodist Church. The rich historic building and enclosed garden are breathtaking, which made for a beautiful backdrop for capturing the day. The celebration continued at Marathon Village. Views from the building encompass much of the surrounding downtown Nashville's ongoing construction efforts. The amazing Bacon & Caviar catered the affair. They offer some of the best food I have ever had! The maid of honors and best man's speech left me in tears. (Thanks a bunch Andrew Dorff, j/k!) Guess that's what happens when a hit songwriter writes a speech.

Here are some of my favorites from the day…

When I see Chris + Danielle's love for one another, I am reminded of the biblical verse Matthew 18:3 - And he said: "Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." I truly felt their child-like faith when I was around them.

I wanted to do something different with Danielle's veil. In the room where Danielle was getting ready, there were many hand painted canvas on the wall. As I was putting her veil over one of the canvases, she said that particular canvas I choose was the one in the room she painted as a young girl.

As Danielle was getting all dolled up for her groom, I stepped over to the window and captured the above picture. A moment in the day that sums up the landscape all around us and how gorgeous the day truly was.

Ethan + Abby's Lexington, Kentucky Country Club Wedding by Darcy Ferris.

At the end of December, I made the journey five hours north with Amanda May to Lexington, KY. Amanda chose me to help her capture one of the most beautiful weddings and endearing families I've ever met. The bride, groom, and most of the wedding party attended college together. Abigail and Ethan (bride and groom) attended high school together, but they never really talked in depth to one another until college. Abigail and Ethan started dating in the fall of their freshman year of college and they never looked back. Ethan's proposal was a complete surprise to Abigail. They were on a cruise during 'formal night' when it was announced they had won a contest. Their prize was a dance by themselves in front of everyone. During the dance, Ethan would tell Abigail how in love with her he was and how he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. It wasn't long before she was sobbing with tears of joy. At the end of the song, Ethan knelt down and asked Abigail to marry him. Of course, she said yes! The best part was that it was a complete surprise and that it was caught on video.

My favorite part of the whole day was that Abigail's father, a preacher, performed the union between Abigail and Ethan.
